The Lab at The Datai Langkawi was designed and built by our Sustainability and Engineering team. A total of 7,968 wine, champagne, beer and liquor bottles were used in its construction. The interior and exterior back wall is made from 280kg of crushed plastic. The Lab has been designed to host workshop activities and to showcase products from our sustainable initiatives. Guests are introduced to a medley of craft-making skills whilst also learning how these activities contribute towards preserving our beautiful natural environment.
The artisanal nature of these workshop activities is designed to stimulate creativity and will appeal to guests aged 12 and above. They are also intended to provoke thought about how we can live more sustainably; new products are created from old, breathing renewed life into materials we often perceive as no longer fit for purpose after single or short-term use. Activities include soap- and candle-making, with more such experiences to come.
Local artists are also invited to feature their artworks and provide workshops.
These workshop activities are a small reflection of a much bigger initiative to be a sustainable business through reducing waste to the environment, conserving natural resources and lowering our carbon footprint. This initiative called Pure for the Future, is one of four pillars which make up our sustainability and conservation programme, The Datai Pledge.
